The School was founded in 1983 by garden guru Rosemary Alexander and is based at the historic Chelsea Physic Garden
We provide serious studies in gardening techniques, knowledge of plants, plus garden layout and design possibilities, overseen by major personalities in this growing industry. Termly links with Arundel Castle garden and practical work, guided by experienced gardeners at Rosemary Alexander’s well known garden in Hampshire, ensure that the course is both practical and theoretical.
I did the garden design course in 2018 with Rosemary and I can safely say it changed my life, the teaching, content and structure of the course provided me with the best foundation on which to grow my career and I am happy to say it has gone from strength to strength.

Many students come from abroad, where the School is recognised as the leading international establishment of its type.
Students value our help and encouragement in developing their personal skills as gardeners, designers, writers, planting consultants or media presenters. EGS alumni tend to keep in touch with us and we proudly support them long after they graduate. Our impressive list of graduates, now in many different associated careers, including designing gardens for many of the RHS shows, demonstrates our continued success in guiding students through the opportunities in this demanding and diverse profession.
