The English Gardening School in Chelsea, London

About the School

The English Gardening School was founded in 1983 by Rosemary Alexander and provides an unrivalled range of professional and amateur courses concentrating mainly on the more serious aspects of gardening.

Our lecturers and tutors have trained many of today’s leading garden designers, horticulturists, plantsmen and botanical painters. Our distance learning course students span over 20 different countries, and our central London base attracts diploma and short course students from all over the world.

The media often turns to us for aspiring celebrities or for gardening or plant advisors and our botanical painting graduates exhibit their work in highly prestigious international galleries and institutes.

We continue to explore both the classic and contemporary aspects of gardening, regularly adding new topics and tutors to our existing range of long and short courses.

Short Courses

Our programme of short courses, from one day to ten weeks in length, covers all aspects of gardening, from design to horticulture and botanical painting. Our lecturers are experts, with many regarded as the leading authority in their field. Classes are interactive and give innovative and practical ideas to apply to your own garden. Most days run from 10.30am to 3.30pm and include a light lunch.
